Freelance Web Writers Why Pitching Yourself as a Niche Writer Can Get You More SEO Writing Jobs

If you offer SEO copywriting services and would like to land more clients, try pitching yourself as a niche writer if you’re not already doing so. Why would you want to do this? Following are three reasons.

1. SEO Specialist: Specialists are viewed as experts - no matter what the profession is. This is no different in search engine optimized (SEO) content writing.

As an SEO writer, when I first started out, I pitched myself as an SEO copywriter who specialized in real estate and mortgages. And guess what, my very first article writing job was writing SEO content on mortgages for an internet marketing firm.

After I’d produce a few of these, the firm went on to hire me to write hundreds of other articles covering every topic under the sun - eg, wedding cake toppers, wire jewelry, welding (yes, welding!), ski resorts, etc.

BUT, the reason they first hired me to write SEO content is because they needed a writer who knew how to write about mortgages. Pitching myself as a specialist first is what got me in the door.

2. Write Faster: When you’re a niche writer, you tend to have a vast body of knowledge on the subject. And if you’re an SEO writer, you know how valuable this can be because it means less research time. Less research time means the more copy you can turn out, which means the more money you can make, which brings us to the last reason to specialize as an SEO writer . . .

3. Make More Money: The more you write on a particular subject, the more knowledge you gain. Hence, you can write even faster and make even more money.

When you pick up several clients in your niche, you can in essence double or triple your income because you can repurpose content on one subject and sell it to two different clients.

For example, if the title of your article is “How to Get a Home Loan in a Recession,” you can write this same article two different ways - to make it unique content - and sell it to two different clients.

All the vast majority of SEO writing clients want is unique content. Most times, they’ll leave the subject matter up to the SEO copywriter (you) - so you can repurpose/rewrite the content and sell it. Same article, same amount of research time - two different payments.

The bottom line is, “nicheing it to success” as an SEO writer can be so much easier than try to be everything to everybody. Most times, once a firm hires you to write search engine optimized content, if they’re pleased with what you turn in, they’ll be happy to pass along other SEO writing jobs to you.
